A หน่วยโอนกล่อง (CTU) is a compact, high-speed AMR designed specifically for individual carton and parcel handling. Unlike a tote-carrying CMR, the CTU's onboard conveyor is optimised for single-carton, high-cycle operation — picking up one carton from an infeed station and delivering it to any of hundreds of chutes, packing lanes, or despatch conveyors in the facility.

The key differentiator is throughput: a CTU fleet achieves 1,000+ carton sorts per hour across any-to-any routing, without the fixed cost or layout constraints of a traditional crossbelt or sliding-shoe sorter. The system scales linearly — double the robot count, double the throughput, with no mechanical or infrastructure changes.

CTUs are particularly effective in order fulfilment operations where each customer order requires a different carton destination, and sortation routing changes frequently (daily or hourly) based on carrier cutoffs, peak promotions, or carrier allocation changes.

A traditional sorter has fixed capacity, fixed destinations, and one single point of failure (the sorter belt itself). The CTU fleet has modular throughput (add robots = add throughput), unlimited destinations (software-defined), and no single point of failure. The trade-off: at very high throughputs (>5,000 units/h on a single loop), a fixed high-speed sorter may still be more cost-effective per unit. For throughputs under 3,000 units/h with frequent layout or routing changes, the CTU fleet typically delivers lower TCO over 5 years.
Standard CTU handles cartons from 150×100×50 mm (small polybag-sized parcel) up to 600×400×400 mm and 30 kg. Cartons outside this range (e.g., irregular shapes, fragile items) require manual induction or a specialist CMR/tote carrier. A pre-induction singulation station is recommended for mixed-carton streams to ensure one carton per CTU at induction.
Yes. The FMS receives carrier cut-off time data from the WMS/OMS and dynamically reprioritises CTU tasks to ensure cartons for the imminent cut-off carrier are sorted first — even if they were inducted after other cartons. Chute assignments for closed carriers are automatically reassigned to overflow or secondary carrier lanes, keeping the sortation floor unblocked.
